Target Information

Olfactory receptors interact with odorant molecules in the nose to initiate neuronal responses that trigger the perception of smell. These receptors are members of the G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) family, derived from single coding-exon genes.
They share a seven-transmembrane domain structure with many neurotransmitter and hormone receptors and mediate odorant signal transduction via G proteins.
The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the genome, and its nomenclature is organism-specific.
