Product Specific Information
The monoclonal antibody LDK18 recognizes human Cytokeratin 18, a member of the intermediate filament family found in epithelial cells. Cytokeratin 18 (type I) typically pairs with Cytokeratin 8 (type II) to form keratin filaments. Because many epithelial-derived tumors retain keratin expression, Cytokeratin 18 serves as a valuable tumor marker for identifying primary and metastatic epithelial tumors. It is also expressed in highly proliferative retinal pigment epithelial cells.
Applications Reported: Western blotting, microscopy, immunohistochemical staining, and immunocytochemistry.
Applications Tested: Tested by ICC of MeOH-fixed human cells; recommended ≤1 µg/mL. Optimize dilution for specific assays.

Target Information
Cytokeratin 18 (Keratin 18, KRT18, type I cytoskeletal 18) is a type A (acidic) low molecular weight keratin, typically paired with Cytokeratin 8. It is expressed in tissues of the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urogenital tracts, as well as in endocrine, exocrine, and mesothelial cells. Cytokeratin 18 is prevalent in non-squamous epithelia and most adenocarcinomas and ductal carcinomas, but absent in squamous cell carcinomas. Hepatocellular carcinomas express only Cytokeratins 8 and 18. Mutations in the KRT18 gene are associated with cryptogenic cirrhosis. Two transcript variants encode the same protein.
Cytokeratin subtype expression patterns are increasingly used to distinguish epithelial malignancies. Cytokeratin antibodies assist in tumor differential diagnosis (IHC, cytopathology, flow cytometry).
