This antibody detects endogenous levels of SREBP1 only when phosphorylated at Ser396.
Target Information
Sterol regulatory element-binding proteins (SREBPs) are transcription factors belonging to the basic helix-loop-helix leucine zipper family of DNA-binding proteins. Three isoforms exist in mammalian tissues—SREBP-1a, SREBP-1c (ADD1), and SREBP-2—differing in structure, regulation, and function.
SREBPs are synthesized as 120 kDa inactive precursors located in the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. Upon activation, they are transported to the Golgi where proteolytic cleavage produces a mature 60–78 kDa transcriptionally active fragment.
In liver and adipose tissues, SREBPs regulate lipid and cholesterol metabolism by inducing transcription of related genes. SREBP-1 mainly controls triglyceride synthesis, while SREBP-2 is associated with cholesterol synthesis.
