Target Information
EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) is a receptor tyrosine kinase that mediates signaling in response to growth factors. Overexpression of EGFR has been linked to various cancers and is the target of multiple therapeutic agents.
EGFR is encoded by the EGFR gene on chromosome 7 and belongs to the HER/ErbB family, which includes ERbB2, ERbB3, and ERbB4. Ligand binding (e.g., EGF, TGF-α) induces receptor dimerization and autophosphorylation of cytoplasmic tyrosine residues, initiating downstream signaling pathways. Overexpression is observed in tumors of the head and neck, brain, bladder, stomach, breast, lung, endometrium, cervix, vulva, ovary, esophagus, and squamous cell carcinoma.
