Target Information
The sensation of sight is the result of a cascade of events starting with the interaction of photoactivated rhodopsin with a protein called transducin.
Rhodopsin kinase, also known as GRK1, is a G-protein-coupled Ser/Thr kinase that regulates this cascade.
Following phosphorylation by GRK1, arrestin binds to phospho-rhodopsin, preventing further interaction with transducin and thereby quenching phototransductive activity.
By interrupting the phototransduction cycle, GRK1 plays a crucial role in resetting the visual system for subsequent events.
