Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa and have isoelectric points between 4.9 and 7.8.
Human cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20, with expression patterns varying by epithelial type and differentiation degree. These subtype patterns aid in distinguishing epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies are valuable for differential diagnosis in immunohistochemistry, as well as in cytopathology and flow cytometry assays.
