Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by remarkable biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa and isoelectric pH between 4.9 and 7.8. Human cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20.
Different epithelia express specific cytokeratins related to the type and degree of maturation or differentiation. Cytokeratin subtype expression patterns are useful in distinguishing epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies assist in differential diagnosis of tumors via immunohistochemistry and are also valuable in cytopathology and flow cytometric assays.
