MC5R (Melanocortin Receptor 5) mediates the effects of melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH) and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), activating adenylate cyclase.
This receptor regulates functions in the brain and peripheral tissues including thermoregulation, immunomodulation, appetite control, and sexual behavior.
Melanocortin 5 receptor is expressed in various tissues, particularly in pituitary, exocrine glands, reproductive organs, lung, kidney, and esophagus.
