Target Information
NOS (Nitric Oxide Synthase) activity requires homodimerization and three cosubstrates (L-arginine, NADPH, O₂) as well as five cofactors or prosthetic groups (FAD, FMN, calmodulin, tetrahydrobiopterin, heme).
Three distinct NOS isoforms have been described:
- NOS1 (nNOS or ncNOS): Neuronal form
- NOS3 (eNOS or ecNOS): Endothelial form
- Other isoforms: Represent products of distinct genes
