Target Information
A recently identified protein, termed carboxyl terminus of hsc70-interacting protein (CHIP), interacts both with the constitutive form of hsc70 and the stress-inducible form, hsp70. This 35 kDa cytoplasmic protein is highly expressed in striated muscle and broadly across cultured tissues. CHIP binds to the carboxyl terminus of hsc70/hsp70, decreasing ATPase activity and reducing chaperone efficiency. It also functions as an E3 ubiquitin-ligase within the ubiquitin-proteasome system through its U-box domain.
