Target Information
Carboxyl terminus of hsc70-interacting protein (CHIP) is a 35 kDa cytoplasmic protein that interacts with both constitutive hsc70 and inducible hsp70. It is highly expressed in striated muscle and across various cultured tissues. CHIP binds to the carboxyl terminus of hsc70/hsp70, decreasing ATPase activity and reducing chaperone efficiency. It also functions as an E3 ubiquitin ligase within the ubiquitin-proteasome system via its U-box domain, acting together with hsc70 and hsp90.
