Target Information
Glutathione is a tripeptide composed of cysteine, glutamic acid, and glycine, found in most mammalian tissues. It functions as an antioxidant, free radical scavenger, and detoxifying agent. Glutathione serves as a cofactor for glutathione peroxidase, participates in amino acid uptake, and is involved in leukotriene synthesis. It reacts with harmful chemical species through glutathione S-transferase, forming inactive products and protecting erythrocytes from oxidative damage. Additionally, it aids in disulfide bond formation in proteins and amino acid transport across membranes.
