CDK5는 Cyclin-Dependent Kinase 계열의 단백질로, 포유류 뇌에서 가장 풍부하게 발현됩니다. 활성형 CDK5는 CDK5와 25 kDa 단백질의 이합체로 구성되며, 이 단백질은 35 kDa 신경 특이적 단백질로부터 프로테아제 절단을 통해 생성됩니다. CDK5는 신경계 발달 과정에서 신경세포 이동의 핵심 조절자로 작용하며, 다양한 기질을 인산화하여 세포 부착, 이동성, 시냅스 가소성 및 약물 중독 등 여러 세포 과정 조절에 관여합니다.
