Target Information

Remodeling of chromatin is a critical component of transcriptional regulation, primarily influenced by histone acetylation. Acetylation of lysine residues in histone tails increases accessibility to transcription factors, while deacetylation leads to transcriptional silencing.
Mammalian HDAC8, isolated from human kidney, is a nuclear histone deacetylase with distinct tissue distribution compared to other HDACs. HDAC8 plays a role in tissue development and cancer etiology.
