Target Information
The NOTCH4 gene encodes a Type I transmembrane receptor belonging to the Notch family. These proteins possess multiple epidermal growth factor-like (EGF) repeats in the extracellular domain and various intracellular domain motifs.
Notch family members regulate cell fate decisions in development. NOTCH4 is cleaved in the trans-Golgi network and presented as a heterodimer on the cell surface. It functions as a receptor for membrane-bound ligands and may play roles in vascular, renal, and hepatic development. Some studies suggest an association with schizophrenia susceptibility.
