Target Information
Mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM) is a nuclear-encoded protein that translocates to mitochondria, where it maintains and regulates mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) replication and transcription. TFAM interacts with autophagy proteins such as LC3 through its LC3 interacting region (LIR) motif, contributing to the autolysosomal pathway and control of inflammation. TFAM levels influence mitochondrial function and OXPHOS capacity across tissues. Dysregulation of TFAM is associated with mitochondrial dysfunction and neurodegenerative diseases.
