Target Information
Members of the trefoil family are characterized by having at least one copy of the trefoil motif, a 40-amino acid domain containing three conserved disulfides. They are stable secretory proteins expressed in gastrointestinal mucosa. Their functions may include mucosal protection, mucus layer stabilization, and epithelial healing. This gene, expressed in the gastric mucosa, is also studied for its expression in human tumors. It is clustered with two other related trefoil family genes on chromosome 21.
