Product Specific Information

This antibody was produced in vitro using hybridomas grown in serum-free medium, purified by biochemical fractionation, and is near homogeneity as judged by SDS-PAGE.
It recognizes bands at approximately 10 and 18 kDa on Western blot analysis.

Target Information

Complex V, also known as F1F0 ATPase or ATP synthase, is highly conserved across species including plants, fungi, bacteria, and animals. It drives the reversible conversion of ADP and phosphate to ATP during oxidative phosphorylation and functions as a proton-pumping ATPase.
Although traditionally localized to mitochondria, ATP synthase has also been identified on the plasma membrane of various cell types such as hepatocytes (acting as an HDL receptor), endothelial cells (angiostatin receptor), and cancer cells.

The enzyme consists of two main sections:

  • F1 ATPase (soluble part): composed of α, β, γ, δ, and ε subunits
  • F0 ATPase (membrane-embedded part): composed of a, b, and c subunits

In mammals, ATP synthase comprises 17 subunits—five forming the F1 portion and the remaining forming two stalk domains and the proton-pumping F0 machinery. Two F0 subunits are encoded by mitochondrial DNA, while the rest are encoded by nuclear DNA.
Mutations in mitochondrial-encoded subunits of ATP synthase (Complex V) are associated with OXPHOS disease.
