Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa, with isoelectric points between pH 4.9 and 7.8.
Each cytokeratin subtype (numbered 1–20) is expressed in specific epithelial types and reflects the degree of differentiation or maturation within the tissue.
Cytokeratin expression patterns are widely used to distinguish epithelial malignancies. Cytokeratin antibodies are valuable tools in:
- Differential diagnosis of tumors via immunohistochemistry
- Cytopathology applications
- Flow cytometric assays
