Target Information
PCNA (Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen) is essential for DNA replication and plays a key role in DNA excision and mismatch repair pathways. It interacts with CDK inhibitor p21, endonucleases Fen1 and XPG, and DNA cytosine 5-methyltransferase (MCMT).
PCNA serves as a marker for proliferating cells, particularly in G1 and S phases, and is useful for assessing tumor proliferation status.
Located in the nucleus, PCNA functions as a cofactor of DNA polymerase delta, forming a homotrimer that enhances leading strand synthesis during replication.
Upon DNA damage, PCNA undergoes ubiquitination and participates in the RAD6-dependent DNA repair pathway. Two transcript variants encoding the same protein are known, and pseudogenes exist on chromosomes 4 and X.
