Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with soluble beta2-microglobulin (Beta2M), a 12 kDa Ig-like glycoprotein expressed on lymphocytes, thymocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial cells, and epithelial cells, but absent on erythrocytes.
It does not cross-react with mouse, rabbit, canine, chicken, or bovine.
- Western Blot: Works under both reducing and non-reducing conditions (non-reducing preferred)
- RIA: Use at assay-dependent concentration
- Affinity: Dissociation constant (Kd) = 1.5 × 10^-8 mol/L (competitive RIA)
Target Information
Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a 12–14 kDa protein, a subunit of MHC class I complex. It is expressed on many cell types including lymphocytes, thymocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial, and epithelial cells, but absent on erythrocytes.
It also exists in free form in plasma and has a beta-pleated sheet structure homologous to immunoglobulin constant regions.
B2M is involved in antigen processing and presentation, T-cell receptor (TCR) signaling, and downstream signaling in naive CD8+ cells.
Encoded by the B2M gene (chromosome 15), mutations can cause hypercatabolic hypoproteinemia.
Beta-2-microglobulin levels are used as a marker for renal function and as a prognostic indicator in HIV infection.
