Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with a well-defined epitope (W40, R-53) on CD59 (Protectin), an 18–20 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein expressed on the surface of hematopoietic cells and widely present in all tissues.
It does not compete with MEM-43/5 and exhibits blocking activity.
A suggested positive control for this product is placenta.
Target Information
CD59 (Protectin) is a small (18–20 kDa) GPI-anchored inhibitor of the membrane attack complex (MAC).
It prevents complement-mediated cell lysis by binding to C8 and/or C9, inhibiting formation of the cytolytic pore.
CD59 also acts as a low-affinity ligand for human CD2, involved in T-cell costimulation and signal transduction.
Mutations in CD59 cause CD59 deficiency, leading to hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and cerebral infarction.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
