Product Specific Information

This antibody reacts with a well-defined epitope (around L33) on CD59 (Protectin), an 18–20 kDa glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored extracellular glycoprotein expressed on the surface of all hematopoietic cells and widely present on cells in all tissues. The MEM-43/5 does not compete with most other CD59 antibodies.
Western Blot is recommended under non-reducing conditions.

Target Information

CD59 (Protectin) is a small (18–20 kDa) GPI-anchored ubiquitously expressed inhibitor of the membrane attack complex (MAC). It regulates complement cascade by preventing cytolytic pore formation through binding with complement C8 and/or C9. CD59 also acts as a low-affinity ligand of human CD2, contributing to T cell costimulation and lymphocyte signal transduction.
Mutations in CD59 cause CD59 deficiency, associated with hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and cerebral infarction. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants of CD59 have been identified.
