Product Specific Information

The CD28.2 monoclonal antibody reacts with the human CD28 molecule, a 44 kDa homodimer expressed by thymocytes, mature T cells, and plasma cells. CD28 is a ligand for CD80 (B7-1) and CD86 (B7-2), serving as a potent co-stimulator of T cells. Signaling through CD28 enhances IL-2 and IL-2 receptor expression and increases cytotoxicity of CD3-activated T cells.

Target Information

CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T-cell surface glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes and acts as a critical co-stimulatory receptor, providing the second activation signal by binding CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells. CD28 prevents T cells from entering an anergic state or premature apoptosis. Expression varies across T-cell maturation stages, being highest on immature thymocytes. Dysfunction of CD28 is associated with diseases such as mycosis fungoides and Sezary’s Disease.
