Target Information
This potassium channel is controlled by G proteins. Inward rectifier potassium channels preferentially allow potassium influx rather than efflux. Their voltage dependence is influenced by extracellular potassium concentration; as external potassium increases, the voltage range for channel opening shifts to more positive values. Inward rectification results mainly from blockage of outward current by internal magnesium. This receptor is essential for heartbeat regulation.
