Product Specific Information
This antibody detects endogenous levels of the activated Caspase 7 fragment resulting from cleavage adjacent to Asp198.
Target Information
Caspase 7 belongs to the family of cysteine proteases, divided into apoptotic and inflammatory subfamilies. Apoptotic caspases include initiator and executioner types; Caspase 7 functions as an executioner caspase, activated by initiator caspases to cleave cellular substrates leading to apoptosis.
It shares homology with caspases 1 and 3 and the C. elegans protein CED-3.
Alternative splicing of Caspase-7 mRNA produces multiple isoforms. Caspase-7 activity can be inhibited by XIAP expression.
Diseases associated with CASP7 include Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus 17 and Aleutian Mink Disease.
