Anti-beta-2-Microglobulin antibody is an IgG fraction purified from monospecific antiserum by a multi-step process including delipidation, salt fractionation, and ion exchange chromatography, followed by extensive dialysis.
Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-Biotin, anti-Rabbit Serum, and purified beta-2-Microglobulin (Human Urine).
Cross-reactivity with beta-2-Microglobulin from other sources may occur but has not been specifically determined.

Target Information

Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a 12–14 kDa protein that forms part of the MHC class I complex. It is associated with HLA Class I antigens and expressed on lymphocytes, thymocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial and epithelial cells, but absent on erythrocytes.
It is also found free in plasma and shares homology with immunoglobulin constant regions, forming a predominantly beta-pleated sheet structure.
B2M is involved in antigen processing and presentation, TCR signaling, and CD8+ cell activation.
Encoded by the B2M gene on chromosome 15, mutations can cause hypercatabolic hypoproteinemia.
B2M levels serve as markers for renal function and as prognostic indicators in HIV infection.
