Ep-CAM (epithelial adhesion molecule, epithelial specific antigen, ESA)은 약 40 kDa의 막관통 당단백질로, 상피세포 접착에 관여하는 분자입니다.
Ep-CAM은 칼슘 비의존적 상동 접착을 매개하며, 세포주기 조절 유전자(c-myc, cyclin A, E)의 발현을 유도하여 상피세포 및 섬유아세포의 증식과 대사에 영향을 줍니다.
Ep-CAM 매개 접착은 클래식 카데린(cadherin)에 의한 접착을 억제하여 상피세포의 분화 및 성장에 영향을 줄 수 있습니다.
Ep-CAM의 과발현은 상피세포 증식 증가와 연관되며, 인간 암종에서 높게 발현되어 상피계 종양의 마커로 사용됩니다.
Ep-CAM은 대부분의 단순 상피 및 다양한 암종의 기저-측면 세포 표면에 발현되며, 선암종과 흉막중피종을 구별하는 마커로 보고되었습니다.
