Product Specific Information

  • Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.

Target Information

Ep-CAM (epithelial adhesion molecule, epithelial specific antigen, ESA) is a transmembrane glycoprotein (~40 kDa) expressed in epithelial tissues. It functions as a calcium-independent homotypic cell adhesion molecule influencing cell cycle, proliferation, and metabolism via induction of proto-oncogene c-myc and cell cycle regulators cyclin A and E.
Ep-CAM-mediated adhesions negatively regulate cadherin-mediated adhesions, affecting epithelial differentiation and growth. Overexpression is associated with enhanced epithelial proliferation and is highly expressed in human carcinomas, serving as a marker for epithelial lineage tumors.
Ep-CAM is typically found on the basolateral surface of simple epithelia and many carcinoma types, and can distinguish adenocarcinomas from pleural mesotheliomas.
