Product Specific Information

  • Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  • For formalin-fixed tissues: Heat tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, then cool at room temperature for 20 minutes before staining.

Target Information

Ep-CAM (epithelial adhesion molecule, epithelial specific antigen, ESA) is a transmembrane glycoprotein (~40 kDa) expressed in epithelial tissues. It functions as a calcium-independent cell adhesion molecule influencing cell cycle, proliferation, and metabolism by inducing c-myc and cyclins A/E.
Ep-CAM-mediated adhesions negatively regulate cadherin-mediated adhesions, affecting epithelial differentiation and growth. Overexpression correlates with enhanced epithelial proliferation and is observed in many human carcinomas, serving as a marker for epithelial lineage tumors.
Ep-CAM is localized on the basolateral surface of most simple epithelia and various carcinoma types, and helps distinguish adenocarcinomas from pleural mesotheliomas.
