Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열의 구성원입니다. GFAP는 중추신경계의 성상세포(astrocytes)와 일부 astroglia, 말초신경계의 위성세포 및 비수초화 슈반세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 신경줄기세포(neural stem cells)에서도 높은 수준으로 발현됩니다.
GFAP 항체는 astrocytic 세포의 마커로 유용하며, astrocytic 기원의 뇌종양에서도 GFAP 발현이 높게 나타납니다. 이 단백질은 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 침샘 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고되었습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정에서 astrocytes를 다른 신경교세포와 구분하는 마커로 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease(희귀성상세포질환)를 유발하며, 대체 스플라이싱으로 여러 isoform을 생성합니다.
