Product Specific Information

  • Use: IL-5 exerts activity in the range of 0.1 to 10 ng/mL for most in vitro applications.
  • Reconstitution and Dilution: Reconstitute in distilled water to a concentration of 100 µg/mL. After reconstitution, dilute cytokine in a neutral buffer containing carrier protein such as 5–10% FBS or 1–4% high purity BSA (fatty acid free fraction V).
  • Stability: Lyophilized product is stable until expiration if stored desiccated below 0ºC. Cytokines diluted as indicated above should be divided into aliquots and stored at -70ºC. Recombinant proteins should be stored at concentrations >500 ng/mL to reduce loss of activity.

Target Information

IL-5 is a cytokine that acts as a growth and differentiation factor for both B cells and eosinophils. It is a main regulator of eosinopoiesis, eosinophil maturation, and activation. Elevated IL-5 production is associated with asthma and hypereosinophilic syndromes.
The IL-5 receptor is a heterodimer whose beta subunit is shared with receptors for interleukin 3 (IL3) and colony stimulating factor 2 (CSF2/GM-CSF).
IL-5, together with IL4, IL13, and CSF2, forms a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5. These cytokines are coordinately regulated by long-range regulatory elements spread over 120 kilobases on chromosome 5q31.
