Product Specific Information

The monoclonal antibody IgE21 recognizes the immunoglobulin E (IgE) class of antibodies. Natural serum IgE levels are low, representing a small fraction of total immunoglobulins. IgE plays a crucial role in allergic responses by binding to mast cells and basophils via the Fc epsilon receptor I, leading to the release of histamine and other mediators. IgE is produced by terminally differentiated plasma B cells and basophils, and exists in both soluble and membrane-bound forms. IgE21 recognizes both forms.

Target Information

IgE is one of the five classes of mammalian immunoglobulins. Each monomer consists of two heavy (epsilon) chains with four Ig-like constant domains and two light chains. IgE mediates type I hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., hay fever, asthma, hives, anaphylactic shock) by binding to Fc receptors on basophils and mast cells. Crosslinking of receptor-bound IgE induces degranulation and release of mediators responsible for allergic manifestations. IgE is also essential for immunity against parasitic infections.
