Target Information
Carbonic anhydrases (CAs) are zinc metalloenzymes that catalyze the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. They are involved in biological processes such as calcification, bone resorption, respiration, acid-base balance, and formation of aqueous humor, saliva, gastric juice, and cerebrospinal fluid.
CA VB (Carbonate Dehydratase VB) is one of two isoforms of CA V, localized to mitochondria and involved in metabolic processes. It is predominantly expressed in heart, pancreas, lung, placenta, kidney, and skeletal muscle. Unlike CA VA, CA VB is not expressed in the liver, suggesting distinct physiological roles.
