Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
CYP27A1 participates in the degradation of cholesterol to bile acids through both the classic and acidic pathways. It is the initiating enzyme in the acidic pathway, producing oxysterols by hydroxylation at the 27th carbon of cholesterol. In the acidic pathway, it generates 27-hydroxycholesterol, while in the classic pathway it yields 3β-hydroxy-5-cholestenoic acid. CYP27A1 is also involved in vitamin D3 metabolism. Although expressed in many tissues, its functions outside the liver are not fully characterized. In macrophages, 27-hydroxycholesterol produced by CYP27A1 may help reduce inflammatory factors linked to cardiovascular disease.
