Product Specific Information

The 11B11 antibody reacts with mouse interleukin-4 (IL-4), a 14 kDa cytokine. This antibody is neutralizing and recognizes IL-4, also known as BCDF, BCGF-1, and BSF-1. IL-4 is secreted by activated Th2 and natural killer T cells, and to a lesser extent by Th1 and mast cells. It promotes proliferation and differentiation of B cells and, together with CD40 signaling, induces Ig isotype switching and upregulation of MHC class II and CD23.

Applications Reported: Intracellular staining followed by flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Tested on Th2-polarized and stimulated mouse splenocytes at ≤0.25 µg/test (100 µL final volume). Cell number may range from 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test. Optimal titration recommended.

Target Information

Interleukin-4 (IL-4) is a pleiotropic, immune-modulatory cytokine produced by activated T cells, acting as a ligand for the IL-4 receptor. IL-4 has broad biological functions and shares overlapping roles with IL-13. STAT6 mediates IL-4 signaling. The IL-4 gene, along with IL-3, IL-5, IL-13, and CSF2, forms a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5q. IL-4 and IL-13 are closely located and co-regulated by long-range elements over a 120 kb region. IL-4 delta 2 is a known splice variant.
