Target Information
CUG-BP1 and CUG-BP2 are proteins that bind specifically to (CUG)₈ oligonucleotides in vitro.
CUG-BP1 exhibits major binding activity in normal cells, while nuclear CUG-BP2 binding activity increases in DM cells.
Both are isoforms of the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) hNab50.
CUG-BP1 regulates splicing and translation of various RNAs, and its altered activity is associated with changes in translation of the C/EBPβ transcription factor in DM.
It serves as an important regulator of initiation from different AUG codons of C/EBPβ mRNA.
