Target Information
MELK (Maternal Embryonic Leucine Zipper Kinase) is a serine/threonine kinase related to the AMPK family and is implicated in cell cycle regulation. It is often overexpressed in cancers and considered a potential therapeutic target. MELK phosphorylates multiple substrates including BCL2L14, CDC25B, MAP3K5/ASK1, and ZNF622, influencing apoptosis, mitosis, and cell proliferation. It plays critical roles in neural progenitor proliferation and may affect mammary carcinogenesis by modulating pro-apoptotic pathways.
