Target Information
Replication factor C (RFC) is an essential DNA polymerase accessory protein required for DNA replication, repair, and telomere maintenance. RFC forms a heteropentameric complex that recognizes primer-template junctions and loads proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in an ATP-dependent manner.
All five RFC subunits share conserved RFC box sequences containing nucleotide-binding motifs. Four RFC genes (RFC1–RFC4) possess consensus ATP-binding motifs. Smaller RFC proteins (RFC2–RFC5) interact with Rad24, while RFC1 does not. RFC2 exhibits ATP binding crucial for DNA replication and checkpoint function.
