Target Information
The insulin-like growth factor-binding proteins (IGFBPs) are a family of homologous proteins that co-evolved with insulin-like growth factors (IGFs). They act as shuttle molecules and regulators of IGF signaling, influencing bioavailability, concentration, and distribution of IGFs.
IGFBPs also exhibit IGF-independent biological activities. Seven IGFBPs have been identified, each differing in tissue distribution, half-life, and modulation of IGF interactions.
IGFBP5, secreted by myoblasts, plays a key role in muscle differentiation.
