Cathepsin 계열은 다양한 프로테아제 클래스로 구성된 단백질 분해 효소군입니다.

- Serine protease class: Cathepsin G
Cathepsin A는 serine carboxypeptidase로, β-galactosidase(β-gal) 및 α-neuraminidase(Neu1)와 함께 고분자량 리소좀 복합체를 형성하여 이 효소들을 리소좀 내 단백질 분해로부터 보호합니다.
Cathepsin A의 결핍은 β-gal 및 Neu1의 결핍을 초래하며, 이는 galactosialidosis로 알려진 리소좀 저장 질환을 유발합니다.
인간 Cathepsin A 유전자는 염색체 20q13.12에 위치합니다.
