Product Specific Information

This STLALYV monoclonal antibody recognizes human survivin (Birc5), a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) family, which includes XIAP, c-IAP1, c-IAP2, and NAIP. Survivin inhibits caspase activation, negatively regulating apoptosis, and plays a critical role in mitosis and cytokinesis. It is expressed during G2/M phase, localizing to the mitotic spindle and cleavage furrow/midplate. Survivin is highly expressed in tumors and fetal tissue but absent in non-proliferating cells.

Deletion studies in lymphocytes show survivin is essential for cell division but not for survival inhibition.
Reported applications include immunohistochemistry (FFPE tissue), microscopy, and immunocytochemistry. Fluorochrome-conjugated STLALYV is recommended for intracellular flow cytometry.

Target Information

Survivin (IAP4) is the smallest member of the Inhibitors of Apoptosis Protein (IAP) family, involved in cell signaling, division, and metabolism. It is differentially expressed in most human cancers but not in normal tissues. Survivin contains a single BIR domain and lacks a C-terminal RING finger domain.

Expression is high during fetal development and in tumors, low in adult tissues. Survivin associates with mitotic spindle microtubules during G2/M phase, and disruption of this interaction increases caspase-3 activity, promoting apoptosis. It may counteract apoptosis induction during mitosis.

Survivin is also expressed in adult rat brain tissues after injury, co-localizing with NeuN and PCNA, suggesting a role in neural cell proliferation. Multiple transcript variants exist, with three full-length forms characterized. Overexpression in cancer may bypass apoptotic checkpoints, promoting uncontrolled cell division.
