Target Information
ATP6V1A encodes a component of vacuolar ATPase (V-ATPase), a multisubunit enzyme mediating acidification of eukaryotic intracellular organelles.
V-ATPase-dependent organelle acidification is essential for processes such as protein sorting, zymogen activation, receptor-mediated endocytosis, and synaptic vesicle proton gradient generation.
The enzyme consists of a cytosolic V1 domain and a transmembrane V0 domain. The V1 domain contains the ATP catalytic site and includes multiple subunits (A, B, G, C, D, E, F, H). The V0 domain comprises subunits a, c, c’, and d.
This protein represents one of two V1 domain A subunit isoforms and is expressed in all tissues. Transcript variants derived from alternative polyadenylation exist.
