Target Information
Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and epithelial layer maintenance. It interacts with E-cadherin and alpha-catenin to anchor the E-cadherin complex to the actin cytoskeleton. Beta-catenin also participates in signaling pathways such as Wnt/Wingless and interacts with proteins like adenomatous polyposis coli. Its dysregulation is associated with various cancers, including colorectal, ovarian, breast, and liver tumors. In the nucleus, beta-catenin co-activates Lef/Tcf transcription factors, promoting expression of genes like cyclin D and c-myc that drive cell proliferation.
