Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes native human CEACAM5 protein expressed in transfected mammalian cells.
Target Information
CEA (Carcino Embryonic Antigen, CD66e) is synthesized during fetal development in the gut and re-expressed in intestinal carcinomas and various tumors. It belongs to the immunoglobulin supergene family and includes one N domain and six constant-like A and B domains.
Antibodies to CEA help identify the origin of metastatic adenocarcinomas and distinguish pulmonary adenocarcinomas (60–70% CEA+) from pleural mesotheliomas (rarely or weakly CEA+).
CEA functions as a cell adhesion molecule found on leukocytes, epithelia, and endothelia, mediating homophilic and heterophilic interactions. It plays roles in tissue differentiation, angiogenesis, apoptosis, tumor suppression, metastasis, and immune modulation.
Multiple transcript variants exist, though not all full-length sequences are defined.
