Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes native human CEACAM1 and CEACAM5 proteins expressed in transfected mammalian cells.
Target Information
Over-expression of CEA/CEACAM5 in tumors of epithelial origin is the basis of its widespread use as a tumor marker. CEACAM1 expression is often down-regulated in tumors, suggesting a tumor-suppressive role. The anti-tumor effect may be related to inhibition of tumor angiogenesis through increased secretion of anti-angiogenic molecules. Members of the CEA family have diverse functions, including roles as cell adhesion molecules, tumor suppressors, regulators of immune cell activation, and bacterial receptors.
