Target Information
The TRAF1 protein is a member of the TNF receptor-associated factor (TRAF) family, which mediates signal transduction from TNFR superfamily receptors. TRAF1 forms a heterodimeric complex with TRAF2, required for TNF-alpha-mediated activation of MAPK8/JNK and NF-kappaB. The TRAF1–TRAF2 complex also interacts with inhibitor-of-apoptosis proteins (IAPs), mediating anti-apoptotic signals from TNF receptors. Expression can be induced by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), and EBV membrane protein LMP1 interacts with TRAF1 and other TRAF proteins, linking LMP1-mediated B lymphocyte transformation to TNFR signaling. Three transcript variants encoding two isoforms have been identified for this gene.
