Target Information
Cardiac Troponin I (TnI) is an integral inhibitory protein in cardiac muscle, forming a complex with troponin C (TnC) and troponin T (TnT).
It plays a key role in muscle contraction regulation via calcium binding to TnC, which releases the inhibitory region of TnI from actin, enabling myosin attachment and muscle contraction.
Clinical relevance:
- Measurement of blood TnI and TnT levels is an important diagnostic indicator of heart muscle damage.
- Used to differentiate between angina and myocardial infarction.
- Cardiac Troponin I can inhibit angiogenesis in vivo and in vitro.
- Mutations in the gene cause familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy type 7 (CMH7) and familial restrictive cardiomyopathy (RCM).
