Product Specific Information
- PA1-18362 detects Basic FGF from human, mouse, and rat samples.
- Successfully used in immunohistochemistry procedures.
- Immunogen: recombinant human basic FGF.
- After reconstitution, keep aliquots at -20ºC for higher stability, and store at 4ºC with antibacterial agent.
- Reconstitute with 100 µL of distilled water; glycerol (1:1) may be added for additional stability.
Target Information
FGF2 (FGFb, fibroblast growth factor basic) is part of the fibroblast growth factor family and interacts with high-affinity transmembrane receptors to regulate cell proliferation and tissue neovascularization.
FGF2 exists as five isoforms with distinct intracellular localizations:
- 18 kDa isoform: cytosolic, acts through cell surface receptors
- 22–34 kDa isoforms: nuclear, may signal independently of transmembrane receptor pathways
In humans, the gene is located on chromosome 4q.
FGF2 is involved in limb and nervous system development, wound healing, and tumor growth.
Its mRNA contains multiple polyadenylation sites and is alternatively translated from non-AUG and AUG codons, producing five isoforms with distinct properties.
CUG-initiated isoforms are nuclear (intracrine effect), while AUG-initiated isoforms are cytosolic (paracrine/autocrine effects).
Diseases associated with FGF2 dysfunction include Kaposi Sarcoma and corneal neovascularization.
