Target Information

ZEB2, also known as Smad interacting-protein 1, is a nuclear DNA-binding transcriptional repressor that interacts with activated SMADs. Similar to ZEB1, ZEB2 inhibits E-cadherin transcription and induces epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), which regulates cell migration during embryonic development and wound healing. ZEB2 may protect cells from DNA damage-induced apoptosis, contributing to tumor progression. It is often found in the cytoplasm of various cancer tissues, suggesting localization regulation. Mutations in ZEB2 are associated with Hirschsprung disease and Mowat-Wilson syndrome.
